Car Insurance Kia (Car Insurance). The piston has a hole in it?The piston has a hole in it? Its a 1955 Ford 600 tracter I noticed it had alot of blow by in the cranckcase it kept blowing out the the valve cover gasket. But it actually ran good besides that so I decided i was going to find out what was going on so I tore the motor down and the first thing I noticed was a hole the size of a pencil in the #3 piston the #2 ,#1 piston had real deep pits in it but the #4 piston looked fine. Im assuming it could be a timing issue but we have had this tracter for 27 years and it didnt happen overnite. I have also consider sense years ago they used lead based gasoline that maybe since we never used a lead additive that maybe this might be the cause What do you think???? Thanks for your answers!!!!! Could be all of the above. Timing too advanced can cause detonation which over time could wreck the pistons, using lower octane fuel (leaded was usually higher octane) could cause detonation as well. the air fuel ratio coult me messed up and the sprk plugs could also be putting out to much spark Time for a complete rebuild with 4 New Alloyed Pistons, New Timing Chain & Gears + Sodium Valves to Handle the Extra heat Timing being off can do this over time, and you are also on the right path about the lead gasoline, since that engine requires it you should have been using the lead additive and this may have been prevented. Now you need a rebuild with components like alloy or forged pistons and higher strength alloy valves I think they are known as sodium valves, for higher temps, of unleaded gas. I understand that lead in the fuel served as a cushion for the valves. Without the lead, your valves would pound their seats to bits. I too would assume there was a timing issue. But maybe if there were more deposits in #3 and less in #4, these deposits built up and raised the compression until it finally burned a hole in #3. Some one may have put the wrong reach plug into the engine. Auto parts : Brake Caliper Bolt Acura 1995 . Brake Disc Simulator Alfa Romeo 1996 . Brake Drum Audi 1997 . Brake Dust Shields BMW 1998 . Kia . Types of Lubrication OilMineral oils are the most popular kind used for lubrication, but that hasn't always been the case. Whale fat, for example, was very popular for lubricating machinery in the early 1800s. Today, other kinds of lubricators have been developed, and though not as popular as mineral oils, they do have their uses. Mineral Oils Mineral oils are produced from crude oil. Depending on how the crude is refined and processed, mineral oils can take on different properties -- ideal for various kinds of engines and machinery. This wide range of applications is part of the reason for their popularity, but they are also cheap to produce and a byproduct of a large industry. Synthetic Oils Manufacturers use crude or other kinds of oil to create synthetic oils with desired properties. Synthetic oils are often interchangeable with mineral oils, but have become more desirable in certain applications. The high heat generated in some parts of a jet engine, for example, degrade or destroy mineral oils but not synthetics. Biological Oils Biological oils have been extremely important historically, but today make up only a tiny share of the overall lubrication market. Castor oil is a vegetable-derived oil with limited use, as it is limited by a low maximum operating temperature. Vegetable and biological oils are beneficial, though, because they are biodegradable. Grease Grease is a semi-solid lubricating substance. Manufacturers take some form of lubricating oil and process or combine it with additives to make it semi-solid. In certain situations, for example when lubricating oil can only be applied infrequently and otherwise would flow away from the moving part as a liquid, grease makes an ideal substitute. Grease applied liberally can also keep damaging dust, dirt, and other small particles out of potential openings in machinery.
Kia . How to Reduce Engine Blowby With Oil TreatmentAs vehicles age, wear can create gaps between moving internal engine parts which lead to blow-by. Blow-by is a condition caused by combustion leakage through piston rings and valve stem guides. Oil treatment products thicken engine oil to fill these gaps and reduce blow-by through improved performance. Adding oil treatment also aids in conditioning worn, dry oil seals to help stop engine oil pan and valve cover leaks. You can add an oil treatment product to your vehicle's engine with minimum automotive engine experience. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Vehicle owner's manual Shop towels Oil treatment product Funnel Step by Step : 1 Allow the engine to cool before performing work. 2 Remove the ignition keys from the vehicle to ensure that the engine will not be started. Place the shift lever in the "Park" position if the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission or first gear if it is a standard shift. Set the emergency brake. 3 Open the hood of the vehicle. 4 Locate the engine oil filler cap and remove it. Many engine filler caps have an image of an oil can on them. If its location is not conspicuous, use the owner's manual to locate it. 5 Remove the engine oil filler cap by turning it in a counterclockwise direction. Some oil caps act as plugs and can be readily removed by pulling them straight out with a slight twisting motion. Use a shop towel to help grip the cap if needed. 6 Insert the smaller end of the funnel into the oil filler tube. 7 Add the oil treatment product to your engine by pouring the prescribed amount into the mouth of the funnel as dictated by the product manufacturer's recommendations. Be sure to use a clean funnel, free of foreign particles. 8 Remove the funnel after the oil treatment has run out of it. As you begin to remove it with one hand, place a shop towel over the spout end to prevent any drippings from falling onto the engine. 9 Install the oil filler cap back into place. Step by Step : 10 Close the hood of the car securely. Step by Step : 11 Start the engine and allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature. This will blend the oil treatment with the engine oil completely. Tips & Warnings Ideally, it's best to add an oil treatment product after an engine oil change. Replace the engine oil with one grade heavier than your last oil change. Straight oil weights, such as 40-weight, can be used in the warmer seasons. During the winter months, use 20 or 30 weight oil. The heavier weight oil will help to reduce blow-by and provide better lubrication for older engines.
